How to Lose Weight for Prom

Prom is coming up and you want to look great in your strapless dress. Wanting to lose weight for a big event is common. Hollywood stars lose weight for films, events and photo shoots all the time. However, if you want to lose weight for prom and keep it off, then you need to make lifestyle changes and continue them well after your dance. Summer shortly follows prom, so why not keep up your healthy habits to look and feel great in your bikini?

Step 1

Grab a notebook and a pen. Carry it with you for the next couple of days and write down everything that you eat. Figure out how many calories you're consuming and how many calories you would need to cut back on to lose weight. There are many different websites you can go to in order to figure out how many calories you should be eating such as the American Cancer Society's website.

Step 2

Cut back on your portions at each meal. If you usually eat three eggs, four slices of bacon and two pieces of toast for breakfast, cut back to two eggs, two pieces of bacon and one piece of toast. Do this with each meal but make sure that you intersperse healthy snacks in between your meals, so you won't feel hungry all day.

Step 3

Carry at least two healthy snacks with you to school everyday. When you're feeling hungry after band practice or in between classes before lunch, eat a healthy snack such as a bag of pretzels or a pear. If you allow yourself to become ravenous before you eat, you'll eat a lot more at your next meal.

Step 4

Stop drinking soda, even diet soda and juice. You can have one glass of orange juice with breakfast, but you should only be drinking water after that. Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking at least eight cups of water a day. Carry a reusable water bottle with you.

Step 5

Get moving. Take dance lessons with one your friends, so you'll impress your prom date. Go hiking on the weekends, play basketball after school, or go swimming in the mornings. Try to get active at least five times a week for at least 30 minutes. Make sure that you get your heart rate up to burn a lot of calories.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you only have a few weeks until your prom, you'll need to make most of these changes immediately to lose weight before the big day. However, if you have a few months, change one thing at a time, so you don't get overwhelmed all at once. Consult a doctor before starting a new exercise plan.
  • Don't skip meals. You might feel like you'll lose more weight if you don't eat lunch or dinner, but you'll probably end up eating more in the end. Also, if your body isn't getting enough nutrients it will store any calories and fat possible instead of burning them off during the day.
