Stamina Products, Inc. offers a line of exercise products known as "Pilates Performers" or "AeroPilates Performers." Most models of this device come equipped with a special accessory known as a "cardio rebounder" or "cardio board." This feature resembles a miniature trampoline, and enables users to push off of the bottom edge of the device with their legs. One model does not come with the cardio rebounder pre-installed, but you can add this accessory if desired.
Design
The AeroPilates Performer machines consist of a sliding seat attached to a pair of rails. At the upper end of the rails, ropes loop over two pulleys, connecting to the seat and a pair of hand grips. Three elastic cords rest between the two rails; two of these cords are the same thickness, with the third being slightly thicker than the others. The cords connect to the lower end of the rails and the underside of the sliding seat.
Function
Users operate the Pilates Performer by first attaching the desired number of tension cords; the more cords used, the more effort required to perform an exercise. Next, the user sits or reclines on the device's seat, depending on the type of exercise he wishes to perform. Finally, the user pulls on the handles, which slides the seat up the rails. The combination of the tension cords and the user's body weight on the seat provide the resistance required for the exercise.
Installation
Most models of Pilates Performer feature the cardio rebounder either pre-installed or packaged with the device as an optional accessory. The AeroPilates Performer 286 doesn't; but it does feature the required mounting holes, located on the bottom edge of the device. Stamina Products, Inc. offers a separate accessory for use with this model. If the mounting holes on your Performer are occupied by a foot rest, simply pull the foot rest upwards until it comes free. The installation process for the rebounder is straightforward: the two tubes protruding from one edge of the rebounder slide into the holes. No tools, fasteners or adhesives are required.
Operation
To use the cardio rebounder, first connect the desired number of tension cords to the seat. Then recline on the seat and place your feet in the center of the rebounder. Bend your knees slightly, then extend your legs as though you were jumping. This movement will slide the seat up the rails momentarily, after which the cords will pull you back to the starting position. Avoid pushing off of the rebounder with excessive force, as this may result in injury, or damage to the device. If you feel the Performer move during your workout, use less force.
