Constipation is a condition in which bowel movements are few or hard to pass, due to hardening of waste matter within the bowels. This can be caused by a number of factors, including poor diet, dehydration and some medicines. Constipation can lead to more serious problems when not treated, because backed up waste matter produces bacteria and spreads these toxins around the body. Remedies for constipation are many, but a quick, cheap, yet effective method is the use of sea salt and water. When sea salt and water is ingested, it passes through the intestines and out the colon, helping loosen any obstructions in its path.
Step 1
Pick a day that is free from duties or work. The cleanse may take two or more hours to fully pass through the colon, as the salt in the mixture produces more water in the body, which will be passed through the rectum over time.
Step 2
Pour 32 oz. of water to a pan and add 2 tbsp. of the salt. Set the heat on medium and stir gently until all salt dissolves. The water should be warm but not too hot to drink.
Step 3
Pour the heated mixture into a glass and drink. Refill the glass as needed, but take all the mixture down as quickly as possible. The quicker the solution is ingested, the quicker it will work and the sooner the bowel movements will be over. Drinking the mixture at once also ensures a thorough flush.
Step 4
Massage the abdomen after ingestion of the drink by crunching over and gently rubbing and squeezing the lower abdomen. This helps break down fecal matter and stimulates the intestines and colon. Do not try this if feelings of nausea ensue.
Step 5
Stay close to a toilet for an hour or so, until the solution fully runs its course through the body. If after two hours no bowel movement has occurred, drink another 32 oz. of warm water, but add an 3 tbsp. of salt. If this does not work after two more hours, consult a physician, as this is a serious case of constipation and may require different treatments.
Tips and Warnings
