It is possible to lose weight quickly through diet pills, fasting and fad diets. These methods will not enable you to lose that much weight in the long-term, however, because you will inevitably gain the weight back after you stop using the pills, quit fasting and discontinue your diet. Though it will take time to lose lots of weight, you can follow some guidelines to do so in a way that is sustainable over the long-term.
Step 1
Drink a lot of water to prevent yourself from confusing your thirst with hunger. Add lemon slices or fruit flavoring to your water, for taste--but don't add sugar.
Step 2
Eat breakfast, as this will prevent you from eating too much later in the day.
Step 3
Consume the recommended five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables every day to ensure you get enough fiber to fight hunger. Mix vegetables into your rice, soups, salads and pasta. Make sure to eat food from all the food groups--carbohydrates, meats, dairy, fruits, vegetables and a small amount of fat.
Step 4
Eat only when you feel hungry--not because it is a meal time or because everyone else is eating. Reduce your meal portions and increase the number of times you eat per day. Five or six small meals is better than three large ones.
Step 5
Avoid eating late at night or too close to bedtime. If you must snack at night, have low-calorie granola or cereal bars or fat-free or sugar-free ice cream.
Step 6
Buy smaller amounts of foods you enjoy eating. Consume them, but do so less than you normally would.
Step 7
Add spices or seasonings to your food to enhance the taste of it and help you feel fuller without having to eat as much.
Step 8
Find alternate ways to deal with stress. When you look to food for emotional comfort, listen to music, read a book, write in a diary, practice deep breathing or meditation instead.
Step 9
Exercise regularly by focusing on how good you feel when you do so, how much better you sleep at night as a result and how much more energy you gain from it--rather than exercising as a punishment for eating too much.
Step 10
Drink natural juices and water instead of alcohol to prevent weight gain.
