When you are on a weight loss plan, you may find yourself stuck at a plateau when you still have 10 lbs. left to lose. Green Leafy Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, broccoli, spinach and kale are considered low energy dense foods. You can eat large volumes of these vegetables and not worry about consuming a lot of calories. For instance, one cup of kale has 36 calories, one cup of spinach has seven calories and one cup of broccoli contains 30 calories. Lose the weight by replacing toppings, such as cheese and butter with veggies.

Nuts

If you are feeling hungry on your weight loss plan, you should nosh on nuts for snacks. Almonds in particular can help you lose the last 10 lbs. by providing you with protein, fiber and magnesium. Protein and fiber helps control hunger while magnesium may help stabilize blood sugar levels. Aim to eat 1 oz. of almonds daily as a snack choice.

Fruits

Choose fruits with high water content to keep you full for longer periods of time. Eat fruit between meals and serve as desserts. Some good selections include apples, melons and pears. A medium apple has approximately 95 calories, one cup of cantaloupe contains 60 calories and one small pear has 81 calories.

Water

Overhauling your beverage intake is a great way to lose those last 10 lbs. For instance if you are still drinking regular soda, fruit juice, full fat milk and coffee drinks, you can be adding a lot of unwanted calories to your diet. Instead, aim to switch most or all of your beverages to water. Other low calorie beverage options include unsweetened tea, black coffee and diet soda.
