The Nintendo Wii is a home video-game system with many additional features. One of the most useful features of the Wii is the optional balance board you can buy, also called an aerobic stepper. You can perform a variety of exercises with the board, and the Wii machine provides instructions, times your workout and sometimes even tells you how many calories you're burning.
Step and Advanced Step
The step aerobics and advanced step exercises are both part of the Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus discs. Both the basic step and advanced step show foot positions you should follow at certain times, and you are scored based on how accurately you step. The step sessions are broken down into three to five minute intervals.
Rhythm Boxing
The rhythm boxing exercise is also part of the Wii Fit disc. With the rhythm boxing exercise, you step on and off the board and punch your arms in the air at certain intervals and are scored on your accuracy. The rhythm boxing exercise is challenging and requires coordination, but it burns more calories than the step aerobics.
Free Step
You can use the balance board for a free step session on Wii Fit. The free step must be unlocked after spending a certain amount of time exercising. With free step, you can step on and off the board at your own intervals instead of having to follow prescribed steps. This enables you to go at a faster pace if desired.
Gold's Gym Cardio Workout
The Gold's Gym Cardio Workout game for the Wii uses the aerobic stepper for cardio boxing. The game also includes sit-ups and running. The Gold's Gym game claims to provide a more intense workout than other Wii exercise games.
