How to Lose Weight for Summer

Most people strive to lose a few pounds for the summer months, knowing that summer is when tops come off and bathing suits go on. You don't have to take drastic measures to make this happen, however. Instead, modify your diet and exercise regimen, and you'll notice significant weight loss in a short period of time--just in time for the beach.

Step 1

Begin the day with a balanced breakfast, such as whole grain toast and a bowl of steel cut oatmeal topped with fruit. It is critical to have healthy sustenance in your body in order for your metabolism to work properly all throughout the day.

Step 2

Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water a day to keep your body hydrated, your digestive system moving and your metabolism functioning. Avoid sodas and sugary drinks that won't hydrate you and will simply add empty calories to your diet.

Step 3

Toss out junk food such as chips, cookies, candy and cakes, which are filled with fat, cholesterol and sugar and will make your weight loss stall out and prevent you from achieving a slim figure for summer. Avoid consuming junk food thereafter.

Step 4

Burn calories by going outdoors and moving about. Don't hide out in air-conditioned buildings all day long. Try walking places instead of driving; take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.

Step 5

Commit to an exercise regimen involving cardiovascular activity such as jogging, biking or swimming. These kinds of exercises elevate your heart rate and burn calories, especially when done in the morning. Your body will burn stored fat rather than calories and fat you've just consumed, resulting in speedier weight loss.
