For most people, trying to lose weight by sweating is an unhealthy approach to weight loss. Sweating should only be used for short-term weight loss in exceptional circumstances. One of those circumstances is in sports, such as wrestling and boxing, where competitors have to make a certain weight before the match. It is important to note that once these athletes have made weight, they gain back what they lost by sweating. If you face a similar situation and need to shed a few pounds fast, using a sweat suit is an effective approach.
Step 1
Stop drinking water before working out, and abstain from taking in any fluids while trying to lose weight. Any fluids you drink will only counteract the progress you have made.
Step 2
Choose a form of exercise that will elevate your heart rate and cause you to sweat. Walking, running, bicycling or jumping rope are all effective workouts when wearing a sweat suit.
Step 3
Work out for 30 to 60 minutes. You should do this workout as close to the weigh-in as possible, if this is your reason for sweating out the weight. The less time you can spend dehydrated, the better off your body will be.
Tips and Warnings
- Buy a sweat suit, also marketed as a sauna suit, or make your own. Most sweat suits are made of rubber, plastic or nylon. If you don't want to buy a suit, you can improvise your own using rain ponchos, rain coats or plastic garbage bags.
- If you begin to get dizzy, stop working out immediately, remove the sauna suit and slowly sip water until you start to feel better.
