Yoga classes have become as much about the fashions as the asanas. However, what you wear while practicing can be important because you do not want your clothing to interfere with your movement. What you decide to wear is a personal choice, but there are some tricks to the trade to help you stay dry and comfortable during class.

Fit

The best yoga clothes for you will fit well. That means that you will be able to move from one pose to the next and position your body in all sorts of precarious poses without your clothes getting in the way. Clothes that are too large can ride up at inopportune times or get tangled while you are attempting challenging poses. Similarly, clothes that are too small or tight can restrict your movement and inhibit the extension of your body while stretching.

Price

Yoga clothes run the full spectrum of prices, starting at approximately $30 for some items and going all the way to over $100 for top-of-the-line shirts, tank tops and pants. The higher-priced items are generally made specifically for yoga and are often made with organic or all-natural environmentally friendly materials.

However, that doesn't mean that you have to spend a fortune to have the best yoga clothes. Many reputable sportswear companies are designing clothing for yoga these days, since the popularity of the activity has increased, so you can often find high-quality outfits for reasonable prices.

Shorts or Pants

One of the best things about yoga clothing is the variety; shorts, pants, tank tops and T-shirts are the mainstay. Some believe that some choices are better than others. For example, Fit Sugar recommends that both men and women wear pants most of the time for more sweat to be absorbed by the material. Though practicality is important, the choice is a personal one.

Wicking

If you take a heated or vigorous yoga class, you will want clothing that is made of wicking material, which means it draws the sweat away from your body so that you stay more comfortable while practicing. Clothes with wicking ability will also dry faster after class, which is important if you do not bring dry clothes to change into.

Men

Men's yoga clothes are not as readily available as women's, but more and more manufacturers are rising to the challenge and starting to develop lines specifically for men. If you are not able to find yoga clothing for men near you, regular gym clothes will often suffice. Again, keep fit, comfort and maneuverability in mind.
