Yogurt can be a highly nutritious and delicious food. With many culinary uses from breakfast to thickening agent yogurt is versatile both in the kitchen and your body. However, when you're looking to avoid starch and you desperately need your yogurt, how can you tell if it has any in it? All you need are a few simple items and you're set to test your yogurt for starch.

Step 1

Open your bottle of liquid iodine and use a pipette to suck a few drops into the chamber. Press the head of the pipette and hold between your thumb and index finger. Dip the pipette into the iodine and slightly release the head to draw iodine into the tube. Iodine turns blue in the presence is starch; this is your test medium.

Step 2

Spoon out a tsp. yogurt into a cup. This will be your test yogurt; leave the rest of the yogurt for eating.

Step 3

Squeeze a couple drops of iodine into the test yogurt and mix it with the spoon. If the yogurt turns a dark blue, starch is present. If the yogurt stays the color of the iodine, a yellowish brown, it is free of starch.

Step 4

Discard the test yogurt. The iodine in the test yogurt has rendered it inedible; instead, eat the yogurt you reserved from the testing.
