How to Cook Eggshells to Obtain Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a substance made in the body that has a variety of uses, especially in connective tissue. It provides resilience to cartilage and helps repair the skin. Hyaluronic acid is commercially available in pill form as a dietary supplement and as a cream for topical use on the skin. You can also cook eggshells and bones to make a liquid high in hyaluronic acid.

Step 1

Crack open your eggs and refrigerate the contents for later use. Wash the inside of the eggshells to remove most of the whites.

Step 2

Put the eggshells in a large pot and add some cleaned bones if available. The specific proportion of bones to eggs is not critical, but the bones will increase the amount of hyaluronic acid you obtain.

Step 3

Fill the pot with water so that it covers the eggshells and bones. Cover the pot and boil the mixture for at least eight hours. Add water as required to keep the eggshells and bones from drying out.

Step 4

Pour the mixture through a strainer into a food-safe container that you can seal. This will separate the solid material from the mixture, leaving the liquid, which is high in hyaluronic acid.

Step 5

Seal the container and place it in the refrigerator. You can mix this liquid with flavorings and other ingredients to make a beverage or use it in cooking as a nutritional supplement.
