People who have a sweet tooth can be wary of going on diets for fear of deprivation from their favorite foods. However, replacing high-calorie sweets that contain large amounts of added sugars and fats with fresh fruit can satisfy your sweet tooth while helping you to lose weight due to the reduction in calories and the added fiber, vitamins and minerals. Incorporating fruit in your meals and snacks throughout your day can help you to quickly and safely lose weight.

Step 1

Eat whole, fresh fruit and avoid fruit juices or canned fruits packed in heavy syrups. The latter contains large amounts of added sugars and can cause weight gain rather than allow for weight loss. Fruit that is canned or frozen in its own juices is acceptable to eat.

Step 2

Replace all candy and other sweets that are heavy on added processed sugars with fresh fruit. Reducing your caloric intake by 500 each day can result in a 1 lb. weight loss each week. Fruit is much lower in calories than most sweets that contain heavily processed added sugars, yet still satisfying to your sweet tooth. Eating it in place of other sweets can help you to cut your daily calories.

Step 3

Whip up fresh fruit smoothies for a quick nutritious breakfast or between meal snack, advises Women's Health magazine. Smoothies are low in calories and high in protein, fiber, vitamins C and D, potassium and phosphorous, which help your body and metabolism function properly and help with burning fat and calories. Mix fresh or frozen peaches, bananas or berries, a scoop of whey powder, non- or low-fat yogurt and ice in a blender and blend until smooth.

Step 4

Carry fresh fruit with you and keep a stock in your desk at work to snack on throughout your day. Eating fruit instead of the office cookies, pretzels or chips can help you to lose weight by reducing your intake of white flour, processed sugar and saturated fat. Have sliced apples, grapes or orange sections in Tupperware or plastic bag within reaching distance throughout your day.

Step 5

Incorporate berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, to your daily meals or snacks, recommends Women's Health. Berries are high in fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants, which can improve your digestion system while helping you to avoid cravings and overeating.

Step 6

Make fresh fruit kabobs for a low-calorie appetizer or dessert, says iVillage. Cut pears, apples, melons, pineapples and strawberries into cubes or pieces and place them on a bamboo stick or skewer.
