Electric bicycles come in a wide variety of makes and models, ranging in speed and power as well as size. If you plan on buying an electric bike for a child, important things to consider are the top speed of the bike, the safety features the bike comes with, and the price you're paying for what you're getting.
XB-300Li Electric Power Bike
The XB-300Li Electric Power Bike is essentially a mountain bike with an electric motor attached. The bike's top speed caps off at a safe speed of 20 mph, although this speed is also determined by the child's weight and the landscape. When fully charged the bike can ride for 20 to 25 miles and if the power runs out it still functions as a regular bicycle. Safety features include front and rear brakes, and a front headlight. As of 2011, the bike's price fluctuates from anywhere between $1984.50 to $797 on sale.
Electric Mountain Folding Bicycle
The Electric Mountain Folding Bicycle is nearly identical to the XB-300Li except for the fact that the bike has a hinge in the middle of the frame that allows the bike to be folded in half. The bikes folding ability allows it to be stored and transported easily. Like the XB-300Li, the bike has a maximum speed of 20 mph and can travel for about 20 to 25 miles on a full charge. The bike also comes with front and back disk breaks and a front headlight and as of 2011 costs anywhere from $1,917 to $1,099.
EB-001 Electric Bicycle
The EB-001 electric bicycle is a much smaller bike than XB300Li and has a folding feature as well that makes it extremely compact. The bike has a maximum speed of around 20 mph, depending on how much peddling the rider puts in, and can travel for a distance of 20 to 25 miles on a full charge. The bike comes with front and rear brakes and as of 2011 can cost between $1,219.45 and $649, depending on the sale.
XB-700Li Electric Bicycle
The XB-700Li at first glance looks more like a scooter or a Vespa, but it is in fact a bicycle, complete with a set of pedals in case your bike runs out of electricity. The bike has a maximum speed of 20 mph and can travel for 25 to 35 miles on a full charge. The bike has a backseat for an additional rider and comes with a windshield, front and back brakes, and rear view mirrors on each handle. As of 2011, this bike can cost $2,956.50 to $2,025.00 depending on the sale.
