Any form of cardiovascular exercise performed at a high intensity for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week may allow you to lose weight quickly. Without a low-calorie diet, however, exercise may not provide enough of a calorie deficit to allow for rapid weight loss. Consult your doctor before starting any high-intensity exercise program, especially if you are older than 40 or suffer from a medical condition.
Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do provides a full body workout using high repetition and low resistance movements to develop long and lean muscle. The typical Tae Kwon Do workout or class raises your pulse and oxygen needs sufficiently enough to improve your health while allowing you to lose weight. The Mayo Clinic states that Tae Kwon Do burns about 730 calories per hour for a person weighing 160 lbs. and 1,090 calories per hour for a person weighing 240 lbs. In addition to helping you lose weight fast, Tae Kwon Do helps connect the mind to the body, allowing you to feel a state of calmness and stress relief.
Running
Running provides a high-intensity workout that burns calories quickly. The speed of your run and your weight affect the number of calories you actually burn during your workout. For instance, a 200-lb. person burns 728 calories while running at 5 mph, but a 160-lb. person only burns 584 calories during the same one-hour run, according to the Mayo Clinic. An 8-mph run allows these same people to burn 1,229 calories per hour and 986 calories per hour, respectively. To lose weight quickly, run or jog at the fastest pace you can manage without feeling distressed. If you cannot sustain a fast pace, run at a slower pace and add faster paced intervals into your workout.
Rollerblading
Rollerblading provides you with a cardiovascular workout that burns almost as many calories as running, only without as much impact on your joints. The reduced impact of rollerblading allows you to exercise and lose weight without causing further damage to your joints if you suffer from arthritis or other joint diseases. Rollerblading for an hour allows a 160-lb. person to burn 913 calories and a 240-lb. person to burn 1,363 calories. Wear safety equipment, such as a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards to limit injuries if you experience a fall.
Rope Jumping
The high-intensity workout provided by rope jumping makes it ideal for weight loss, endurance training or fitness improvement. According to the Mayo Clinic, jumping rope may allow you to burn between 730 calories per hour and 1,090 calories per hour, depending on your weight. Start by getting a rope and mastering the basic jump. Add variety to your exercise by jumping backward, varying your foot patterns, moving your legs like scissors or bringing your knees up high with each jump. The more you vary your workout and enjoy your routine, the better your chances of exercising every day, which increases your weight-loss potential.
