Gym Exercises That Shave Belly Fat

Belly fat can put you at risk for a variety of health problems, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes and stroke. Though you need to adopt a healthy diet to lose weight, you also need to exercise regularly. If you frequent a gym, you can tailor your exercise routine to focus on reducing belly fat with the most efficiency.

Treadmill

At the gym, running on a treadmill can help you lose belly fat. As with any cardiovascular exercise, running on a treadmill burns a significant number of calories, and combined with a low-calorie diet, you should start to see a reduction in your waistline. Work out at least 30 minutes, five days a week, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Climber

Use the stair-climbing machine at the gym to get cardiovascular exercise and tone your core muscles. The core includes your abdomen, sides and lower back, all of which are responsible for helping you stand tall and keeping your belly flat. Work out on the stair-climber for as long as you can or until your legs burn.

Weighted Squats

Though lifting weights might not be immediately associated with losing belly fat, building muscle mass increases your metabolism. That means you'll burn more calories and fat even when at rest. Use the weighted squat machine. Place the barbell across your shoulders and grip tightly with both hands at shoulder-width. Squat down, keeping your feet flat on the ground. Keep your abs tightened and lift back up.

Circuits

Circuit training is any combination of exercises you put together at the gym that gets your heart rate up and builds strength. You can run on the treadmill for one minute, then do pushups for one minute. Give no more than 60 seconds to each exercise on the circuit. You can also do situps, lunges, jumping jacks, bicep curls and rows. Once you complete the circuit, repeat it for the duration of your workout.
