The South Beach Diet was created by Arthur Agatston, MD, cardiologist and associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. The South Beach Diet is comprised of three phases consisting of meal plans that focus on eating six meals a day. This diet is designed to teach you the importance of eating good carbohydrates and fats while consuming the appropriate amount of calories, in order to enhance weight loss. This diet also allows for healthy dessert choices that can satisfy any sweet tooth without putting on additional pounds.

Almond Ricotta Crème

The almond ricotta crème dessert is part of phase one meal plan, which is designed to help you consume low glycemic index foods. Almond ricotta crème is made with part-skim milk ricotta cheese, almond extract, sugar substitute and slivered toasted almonds. One serving contains 192 calories, 15 g of protein, 8 carbs and 11 g of fat. Some other tasty ricotta cheese combinations include vanilla ricotta crème, mocha ricotta crème, lemon zest ricotta crème and lime zest ricotta crème.

Flavored Gelatin

A kid favorite dessert is a flavored gelatin. South Beach's phase one desert alternative for ricotta crème is your flavor of choice sugar-free gelatin topped with a tablespoon of fat-free frozen whipped topping or whipping cream with sugar substitute as a low calorie and low fat desert treat.

Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries

Chocolate-dipped strawberries are part of the phase two meal plan, which is designed to add in a few more good carbs to your diet. Chocolate-dipped strawberries include semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, whipping cream, almond extract and eight fresh strawberries. This all-time favorite dessert contains 175 calories, 3 g of protein, 24 carbs and 9 g of fat.

Sliced Cantaloupe with Lime Wedges

This fruity desert is also part of the phase two meal plan. Melons are typically noted for their high sugar content, but offer a healthy option for dessert when consumed in moderation. Simply slice a few pieces of cantaloupe with a few lime wedges and you have a bitter sweet indulgence.

Chocolate Sponge Cake

Chocolate sponge cake is a phase three dessert. Phase three food choices are designed to help you maintain your weight after losing the desired pounds in phases one and two. Chocolate sponge cake is made with eggs, cream of tartar, sugar, vanilla extract, cake flour, butter, semi-sweet chocolate and vegetable shortening. This light dessert contains 197 calories, 4 g of protein, 26 carbs and 9 g of fat.

Lime Cheesecake

Lime cheesecake is a phase three recipe that comes in an individual size portion. This decadent dessert is made with vanilla wafers, fat-free cottage cheese, Neufchatel cheese, sugar, eggs, lime rind and juice, vanilla extract, low-fat vanilla yogurt and kiwi. The personal-sized lime cheesecake contains only 129 calories, 5 g of protein, 13 carbs and 7 g of fat.
