Getting rid of a double chin requires one or both of the following: diet and exercise. A combination of both will yield the quickest results. There are certain facial exercises you can use to strengthen the muscles on the neck and chin area, but keep in mind that there's no way to spot-reduce the chin area for fat loss. Fat loss occurs throughout the entire body when you exercise, according to fitness experts Michael Carrera and Natasha Vani of TrueStar Health. So, take a full-body approach to getting rid of your double chin rather than focusing exclusively on that one area.

Chin Lift

According to FitDay, double-chin exercises can help firm and tone surrounding muscles for a more toned appearance. The chin lift is a simple exercise that can do just that. Begin by sitting with your back erect. Tilt your head back slowly until you are looking toward the ceiling. While still looking at the ceiling, pucker your lips as if you were going to kiss it; hold for a moment before returning to the starting position. Repeat up to 10 times per session.

Neck Roll

Stretch and tone the muscles of your jaw, throat and neck using the neck roll technique. Sit in an erect position. While taking in a deep breath, slowly turn your head to the right side of your body until your chin touches your shoulder. Exhale as you now move your chin down until it's resting on your chest. Inhale again as you move your head to the opposite shoulder as before until your chin is touching. Repeat this movement five to 10 times.

Platysma Exercise

Tighten your throat and chin area using the platysma exercise -- the platysma is the muscle that runs from your jaw to your shoulder. Sit straight up in a chair. Pull your lips in against your teeth while making a frowning expression with your mouth. Hold this posture as you open your mouth slightly and begin lifting and lowering your lower jaw up to 10 times. Make sure your jaw muscles are tensing.

Aerobic Conditioning

Aerobic exercise is an efficient way to burn a substantial number of calories. For instance, a 200-lb. person can burn 346 calories by walking for an hour at a brisk pace, and the same person can ramp up the intensity and burn 728 calories per hour by jogging at about 5 mph, according to the Mayo Clinic. Since 3,500 calories equals 1 lb. of weight loss, you can begin burning away the excess fat around your chin fast. Alternate aerobic exercises week to week to keep your workouts fresh. Some examples include jogging, using the elliptical machine, biking, rollerblading and swimming.
