Every year treadmill manufacturers flood the market with new models that have the latest and greatest gadgets, but it can be difficult even for experienced exercisers to tell which machines will give you a quality workout and which ones are simply packed with gimmicks. The best treadmills are the ones that will give you a high-quality workout and have features to keep you motivated from week to week.

Proform 590T

One of the oldest treadmill review sites on the Internet, TreadmillReview.net recommends the Proform 590T if you want a quality workout while staying within a budget. As of February 2011, the treadmill costs $649 and promises a quality workout through its continuous duty 2.25-horsepower motor, 20--by-55-inch running belt and heart rate monitor. The Proform 590T also folds for storage and has a 25-year warranty on the motor.

Sole F80

American Council on Exercise-certified personal trainer Bret Spottke calls the Sole F80 treadmill a "best in class" treadmill at the $1,000 to $1,500 price range. Reviewers rate the treadmill as being highly reliable, with a wireless heart rate monitor, a powerful motor and solid deck construction. The Sole F80 allows for up to 15 percent incline in the running deck if you want to really challenge yourself, and the display console allows you to track your progress around a quarter-mile track as you run or walk.

NordicTrack Elite 9500 PRO

The Elite 9500 PRO is a new treadmill for NordicTrack in 2011, and former fitness industry executive Fred Waters calls it a "heavy-duty running machine." It has a highly powerful, continuous duty 3.8-horsepower motor and a 22-by-60-inch belt. The incline on the treadmill allows you to run anywhere from a negative 3 percent to a 15 percent grade. It also comes with a free year of iFit Live, which allows you to run programmed routes throughout the world using Google Maps. The machine retails for just under $2,000 as of February 2011.

Landice L7 Pro Sports Trainer

The Landice L7 Pro Sports Trainer is a commercial-quality treadmill that is designed for home use. Though it is at the high-end of home treadmills, costing between $3,000 and $4,000, the L7 Pro Sports Trainer is worth the cost and is solidly built, supporting up to 300 lbs. and including a lifetime warranty on all parts if the treadmill is purchased directly from a Landice dealer. The running deck is also reversible, allowing you to effectively double its life before needing replacement.
