The Eat Nothing White or the No White Foods Diet offers an alternative take on low glycemic diets that restrict foods that are high in starch and sugar and low in nutritional value. Hollywood celebrities like Cameron Diaz claim you can lose 2 to 3 lbs. steadily by following the diet for a month, providing you incorporate exercise into the mix as well.
Food Selection
The Eat Nothing White diet is simple in that you must avoid all white, plant-based foods that are high in starch, and substitute more colorful foods that are nutritious. White foods include white sugar, rice, potatoes and foods made from white flour like breads, cakes, pastries and pastas. You should also stay away from white beans and white potatoes. You should also omit naturally white foods subject to manufacturer's food coloring such as butter and cheddar cheese.
Exceptions to the Rule
White food exceptions include milk, egg whites, lean white meats such as chicken and turkey, as well as white fish. You can also eat white vegetables like cauliflower and parsnip.
Colorful Options
The No White Foods diet encourages you to add color to your diet. This includes foods like colorful fruits and vegetables, brown foods such as brown rice, whole-wheat pastas and whole-grain breads.
The Glycemic Index
While the No White Foods is not a low-carbohydrate diet, it imitates it by trading out white foods high on the glycemic index for low-glycemic index foods. High-glycemic index foods cause you to retain or gain weight and have health implications with respect to insulin insensitivity and diabetes.
Portion Control
While this diet encourages you to eat foods that are nutritious, it does not address the idea of portion control. For example, while whole-wheat pasta is certainly a healthier alternative to white flour pasta, three servings of it will not help you lose weight. For those people who have difficulty managing food quantities, this diet will not provide guidance.
