Eliminate Bad Habits

One of the first steps to losing weight is to eliminate bad habits. Stop snacking late at night. Stop drinking alcoholic beverages in excess. Instead of taking elevators or escalators, take the stairs. Rather than circling a parking lot in search of the closest parking space, park a little farther and walk. Prepare healthy meals at home instead of eating restaurant take-out food on a regular basis.

Eat Well

Revamping your diet is one of the most effective steps you can take to help lose weight. Eating fruits and vegetables with high water content will help you feel full without consuming a lot of calories. Grapefruit is a good food to eat with a meal instead of bread and butter. Snacking on raw carrots throughout the day will help satisfy midday cravings.

Eating salads as your meals or with your meals is another good step in losing weight, but resist the temptation to cover the salads with high-calorie dressing. Opt for oil and vinegar or low-fat toppings.

High-fiber foods can also help you feel full on fewer calories. Apples and pears with the skin on are high-fiber foods, as are raspberries and strawberries.

Another tip is to cut sweets out of your diet. If you crave dessert, enjoy some fruit salad or low-fat yogurt.

Exercise

A key to successful weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume. Exercise, in addition to a low-calorie diet, will help you reach your goals. Start slowly with your exercise plan, but aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity every day. Set realistic goals to help keep you motivated.
Walking is one of the most effective aerobic exercises for weight loss and cardiovascular health. Ask a friend to join you for daily walks to help you stick to your plan.

Another step to quick weight loss is to join a gym. Most gyms offer the services of personal trainers, who can design exercise plans to meet your specific needs.

Join a Team

Playing sports is great exercise and helps you socialize with people who are also health-conscious. Scope out a sport that you enjoyed as a child or try something new that you've always enjoyed watching. You are more likely to stick to an activity in which other people are relying on your participation. Athletics can also make weight loss fun. You may not even realize you are exercising when you get caught up in the thrill of the game.
