How to Diet With Adipex Rx

Adipex is a trade name for Phentermine, an amphetamine typically used as a diet aid. Phentermine was approved in the United States for use as an appetite suppressant in 1959 and it was first manufactured under the name Adipex in 1990. It works by inducing a part of the brain called the hypothalamus to secrete a neurotransmitter called norepinephrine which suppresses the appetite.

Step 1

Study the contraindications for Adipex. Your doctor needs to know any other medications you're currently taking, especially medications for weight loss and depression. You also need to inform your doctor about your medical history, especially heart disease, diabetes, glaucoma, pregnancy or a history of drug abuse.

Step 2

Obtain a prescription for Adipex. Your doctor will typically provide Adipex only for patients whose weight places them at an increased medical risk. Combine Adipex with a weight loss plan that includes diet, exercise and behavioral modification.

Step 3

Take Adipex according to the prescribed label. While important for any drug, it's especially important that you not exceed the prescribed frequency or dosage of Adipex due to its potential for abuse. You'll typically take Adipex once per day two hours after breakfast.

Step 4

Use Adipex only for a short period of time. The specific duration will depend on how you respond to it, but most people take Adipex for three to six weeks.

Step 5

Report specific severe or persistent symptoms of Adipex side effects to your doctor. These include constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, an unpleasant taste and vomiting.

Step 6

Inform your doctor immediately of especially dangerous reactions to Adipex. These include an increase in blood pressure, chest pains and heart palpitations. You should also alert your doctor immediately if you experience dizziness, tremors, insomnia and swelling in the extremities.
