Why Are Fast Foods Bad?

The fried and processed foods found at food food restaurants may taste great, but they can cost you greatly when it comes to your health. The truth is that fast food is loaded with unhealthy nutrients that can lead to serious health concerns.

Cholesterol

Fried and processed meats can greatly increase total cholesterol levels. This is extremely dangerous as cholesterol clogs arteries and can raise blood pressure and even cause heart attacks and strokes.

Trans Fat

Trans fats are the worst kind of fats, as they not only raise total cholesterol, but also deplete your body of the good kind of cholesterol (HDL). Trans fat are commonly found in fast foods.

Saturated Fat

Fast foods, especially those containing items such as red meat or condiments like mayonnaise, are high in saturated fat. Saturated fat can raise your cholesterol and clog your arteries.

Calories

Fast food is usually extremely high in calories. The large portion sizes only exacerbate the problem. Excess calorie intake can cause you to gain weight and eventually become obese.

Avoiding Healthier Foods

Whenever you eat fast food, you are choosing not to eat something that is a healthier option. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains all provide vitamins and minerals that your body needs.
