The Slim-Fast Diet Plan

The Slim-Fast diet is a program that can help you lose weight by eating Slim-Fast diet products and 500 to 800 calories per day of additional healthy food. The diet is simple to follow and there are no membership fees. However, it might not help you develop healthy eating for lifelong weight control. You should talk to your doctor if you are considering the Slim-Fast diet plan.

Diet Summary

The Slim-Fast 3-2-1 plan provides 1,200 calories per day to help you lose weight. You eat three snacks, two Slim-Fast meal replacements and one 500-calorie meal each day. The snacks can be Slim-Fast snack bars or 100-calorie portions of healthy foods, such as nuts, fruit or vegetables. About half of your meal should consist of vegetables, such as eggplant, broccoli or carrots, and the rest should include a starch, such as corn or potatoes, and a serving of lean protein, such as chicken or fish.

Slim-Fast Products

Twice a day, you replace a regular meal with a Slim-Fast meal bar, shake or powdered shake mix made with skim milk. Each provides about 180 to 200 calories and at least 20 percent of the daily value for most vitamins and essential minerals. Most have about 4 to 5 g of dietary fiber and 8 to 15 g of protein. You can eat up to three Slim-Fast snack bars, each containing about 100 calories and 10 percent of the daily value for calcium and most vitamins.

Online Resources

You can get all of the information about the plan and read articles with diet tips for free at Slim-Fast.com. There you can create your personal account for tracking your weight-loss goals and progress. The site has information about Slim-Fast products, such as their nutrition information, ingredients and where you can purchase them.

Concerns

A concern with using the Slim-Fast 3-2-1 plan to lose weight is that you may have trouble preventing yourself from regaining the weight once you go off of the diet. Slim-Fast relies on diet bars and shakes for up to 5 of your 6 meals or snacks each day, and the program does not teach you how to choose and prepare healthy foods for when you stop eating processed Slim-Fast diet products. A nutritionist can work with you to develop a weight-loss and maintenance plan that incorporates a variety of healthy foods.
