Alternative Weight Loss for Health

There are many alternatives to the traditional exercise and diet methods for weight loss. Some of these methods are considered risky and dangerous while others may provide weight loss help when combined with more traditional options. Ear stapling, acupuncture, hypnosis and colon cleanses are among the alternative methods that are available.

Ear Stapling

Ear stapling is a highly controversial option for weight loss. This practice follows the basic principles of acupuncture. A small surgical staple is placed in the middle of the cartilage in the inner ear. It can be left in for a week to several months depending on the desired results.The placement is thought to reduce appetite and lead to weight loss.This method of weight loss has not been proved to be effective, and side effects include serious infections and permanent deformities.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves placing tiny needles strategically in areas of the skin that are believed to be related to symptoms and side effects of different ailments. More specifically, auricular acupuncture, where needles are inserted in the cartilidge of the ears, may have a slight effect on suppressing appetite. While acupuncture may have positive results when used as a method for weight loss, very few studies have been done and little scientific research is available to prove its effectiveness.

Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy uses a series of auditory commands and cues that may help you to overcome your negative behaviors associated with weight gain. The hypnotherapist helps you to learn new ways of dealing with the feelings associated with eating and healthy living. While it may be effective in helping you to lose weight, there is very little scientific research to back up this claim. This method of weight loss may prove to be more helpful when used in conjunction with behavioral therapy, exercise and a low-fat diet.

Colon Cleanse

Another alternative weight loss method is a colon cleanse. This method involves using different types of pills or enema products to remove toxins and build-up in the colon. This may help to promote weight loss by reducing the weight from the matter that passes with a bowl movement and helping your digestive system function better. This weight loss option is very risky and many doctors believe that it is unnecessary because of your body's natural ability to eliminate waste and bacteria through regular bowl movements. There are also risks of dehydration and unbalanced electrolytes when using these products.
