The Best Weight Vest to Buy

Weight vests are designed to add weight to the body during exercise. The idea behind weight vests is to increase the body weight to burn more calories. You can wear a weight vest while jogging, walking or performing strength training. They can also be worn to help strengthen the bones; weight vests have been used for this purpose in Oregon State University's osteoporosis program. A wide range of weight vests are on the market. There are low-budget vests as well as the more expensive ones to choose from.

MiR Short Adjustable Vest

The MiR short adjustable vest is designed for people who do not want to cover their whole stomach with a vest. You can wear this while performing situps with little or no obstruction. This vest only covers you from the chest down to the top of your rib cage. They weigh average 15 to 20 lbs. As of 2011, you could buy one for approximately $160. If you want a heavier vest, you will have to pay more.

Hyper Vest Pro

The Hyper Vest Pro is known for its thin, breathable design. This vest does not completely cover your stomach either; it leaves plenty of room for movement. Just like the MiR vest, you can get these for about $160. Expect to pay more if you want to a heavier vest.

SPRI Vest

The SPRI vest was chosen by Oregon State University for its osteoporosis program. This vest was designed specifically for running and walking. As of 2011, this vest was $60; you will get a standard weight of 8 to 10 lbs. Again, if you would like more weight, you have to pay extra for it.

WalkVest

As of 2011, the WalkVest was $70. You will get the basic 16-lb. vest for that price. One advantage with this vest is that you also get a DVD that shows you exactly how to use it. The WalkVest was designed to be used while walking. It can be used for various other types of aerobic exercise, however.
