Overview

Its no secret that obesity has taken center stage. Optifast is a medically supervised weight management program designed to address just that. The program treats obesity via calorie controlled meal replacement shakes in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry flavors. Optifast is recommended for those with a body mass index of 25 or more.

General Nutrition Info

The Optifast 800 Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry Ready to Drink Shakes are replete with vitamin and minerals, meeting 10 percent to 30 percent of RDI values. and with no more than 160 calories. People generally consume five to seven servings of these shakes depending on their custom diet plan. All shakes contain 14 g of protein, 20 g of carbs, 460 mg of potassium, and only 3 g of fat. Ready to Drink shakes are also milk based.

Ready to Drink Contents

The Optifast Ready to Drink Shakes contain water, sugar, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, corn syrup solids, high oleic sunflower oil, postassium citrate, calcium phosphate tribasic, magnesium chloride, sodium chloride, natural and artificial flavors, cellulose gel and gum, soy lecithin, potassium iodide, ascorbic acid, choline chloride, iron, zinc, vitamin E, niacin, copper, manganese, vitamin A, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-1, vitamin B-2, folic acid, biotin, vitamink, vitamin D-3, and vitamin B-12.
The chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors all maintain the same basic ingredients with the exception of strawberry flavoring and Red #3 for strawberry shakes, and cocoa powder for chocolate shakes.

The Optifast 800 Powders are similar to the Ready to Drink shakes, but are in easy -to-mix powder form. While the caloric, protein, carb, fat, and sodium and potassium amounts are the same as the Ready to Drink product, the vitamin and mineral content is 10 percent higher than Ready to Drink shakes. The grams of lactose are significantly higher at 8 g to 12 g compared to 1 g for the Ready to Drink shakes.

The ingredients for powder mixes are as follows: Calcium caseinate , skimmed milk powder, maltodextrin (corn), sodium caseinate, sugar, vegetable oil, potassium citrate, sodium chloride, magnesium carbonate, sodium citrate, vanilla flavor I, potassium phosphate monobasic, vanilla flavor II, calcium phosphate tribasic, emulsifier lecithin, vitamin C, ferric pyrophosphate, zinc sulfate, sweetener sodium saccharin, nicotinamide, copper gluconate, manganese II sulfate, vitamin E (added as acetate), calcium pantothenate, sodium fluoride, antioxidant ascorbyl palmitate, vitamin B-1 hydrochloride, vitamin B-6 hydrochloride, vitamin B-2, beta carotene, vitamin A (added as acetate), chromium III chloride, folic acid, sodium molybdate, potassium iodine, biotin, sodium selenite, vitamin K-1, vitamin D-3, vitamin B-12.

Strawberry and chocolate have the same ingredients, except that their respective flavorings of strawberry and cocoa.
