Choosing a piece of home exercise equipment can be a daunting task. You are investing a lot of money into a piece of equipment you may not know much about, and as is the case with many products today, your choices are seemingly endless. Treadmills are no different, and factors such as the amount of space you have, budget and what you will be using your treadmill for play an important role in which treadmill you will end up purchasing.
Overall
The Consumer Search website summarizes reviews from other reputable sources, and notes that the websites Treadmill Doctor and Treadmill Ratings Reviews rate the Sole F80 as the top overall treadmill on the market. And at around $1,500 as of 2011, it is reasonably priced as compared to other treadmills. The website Fitness Events also ranks the Sole F80 as its top recommendation. The Sole F80 offers a 3-horsepower motor and a maximum speed of 11 mph, offers a 15 percent incline and also a wireless heart rate monitor. The Sole F80 also folds for easy storage.
Non-folding
Consumer Search recommends the Vision Fitness T9200 as another top choice. Many home treadmills are folding models, but the T9200 is not. It does, however, have a smaller running surface than some other treadmills, like the Sole F80. It has a 2.5-horsepower motor and a 12 percent incline. The regular model comes with only a hand-grip heart rate monitor and basic display, while the Deluxe and Premier models come with preset programs, wireless heart rate monitors, LCD display and more. As of 2011, the T9200 basic model starts at around $1,500.
For Small Spaces
The LifeSpan TR4000i one of the best treadmills for small spaces. It folds up very compactly, and is still very sturdy. Consumer Search points out that many folding treadmills shake and rattle during use and do not generally feel as sturdy as non-folding models. This treadmill has a 3.25-horsepower motor and a maximum speed of 12 mph. "Health Magazine," according to Consumer Search, selected this treadmill as its top overall choice in 2009. As of 2011, the TR4000i is priced at around $2,000.
For Walking and Light Jogging
The NordicTrack A2750 is the top choice for those who need a treadmill for walking and light jogging instead of hard running, according to Consumer Search. Treadmill Ratings Reviews calls it a great value -- as of 2011, it is priced at around $1,000. It has a 2.75-horsepower motor, a heart rate monitor and 22 pre-installed workouts. According to Consumer Search, this treadmill can accommodate an occasional run, and you can also download additional workouts from your computer.
