Getting a flatter belly in three days can be done if you use a juice fast and do abs work along with gentle cardio exercise like walking. This is a quick-fix plan for a special event for which want to look and feel sleek: to make it permanent, commit to a low-fat diet, regular exercise and effective ab exercises.
Be realistic as to how much you can change physically in three days: you may not lose a lot of weight but you will have started a smart diet and exercise routine that you can continue for long-term, permanent weight loss.
Step 1
Juice fast for up to three days if you are in excellent health. Carrie L'Esperance, author of "The Seasonal Detox Diet," recommends juicing organic, fresh vegetables and fruits of all types to get the most vitamins and minerals. Use fresh produce only, as canned or frozen may be sweetened with sugar or contain very little real fruits or vegetable juice.
Drink at least four, eight-ounce glasses of freshly extracted organic juices. Also sip herbal teas made from burdock, yellow dock, dandelion leaves or red clover to help you cleanse and flatten your belly.
Step 2
Notice after your first day of juice fasting if you feel weak or very low energy. If you do, on the next two days, eat a simple whole foods detox diet as recommended by Elson Haas, MD, author of "The New Detox Diet." Eat fresh, steamed, baked or broiled vegetables, fruits, whole grains such as brown rice, millet, oats, quinoa and basmati. Add non-saturated fats: olive, flax seed, hemp seed, canola or fish fats. Eat small amounts of lean protein such as fish, poultry, lean cuts of beef, legumes or non-fat yogurt. Eat more frequent, smaller meals and chew foods thoroughly to aid digestion: you will eat less.
Step 3
Do cardio for 20 to 30 minutes daily, but do not overexert if you are juice fasting all three days. Light to moderate exercise will burn calories, and help you suppress your appetite. Gentle stretching or yoga is also appropriate to help you release stress: do twisting poses to aid digestion and elimination.
Tips and Warnings
- Drink at least four to six, eight-oz. glasses of water throughout the day. Avoid starvation diets: you may end up binge eating and gaining weight. Follow the sensible dietary guidelines in My Food Pyramid, designed by the US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA), see Resources below.
- Juice fasting is not meant to be done for long periods of time: if you have a very demanding job or school schedule, juice for only a day and eat a detox diet of steamed vegetables, whole grains and small amounts of lean protein and fruits. Eating several small meals will make it easier to digest and prevent binge eating.
