The "Wii Fit" video game is more than just a fitness game; it is a tool to set exercise plans that can be customized in order to work on specific parts of your body, or work your entire body. Knowing the capabilities of the "Wii Fit" programs can help you set goals, monitor those goals through the daily activity log and change your exercise plan when the one you choose fails to help your progress.

Wii Fit Plus Routines

Choosing the "Wii Fit Plus Routines" from the training menu helps you target certain areas of your body that you can improve upon. There are four categories from which to choose, "Life Style," "Health," "Youth" and "Form." Each of these categories offers three different exercises. Choose one exercise from each category to target a specific part of your body or improve your balance skills. Save this exercise plan so you can visit it often, every day if you choose.

Combining Routines

Clicking on the combine button from the "Wii Fit Plus Routines" menu screen offers 12 exercise options from the "Wii Fit Plus Routines." Each category is color coded, blue represents "Life Style," yellow represents "Health," green for "Youth" and pink for "Form." The computer randomly selects exercises from the workout areas and activity level you choose. Activity levels are listed as one-at-a-time, two-at-a-time and three-at-a-time. Using this exercise plan almost guarantees a different workout each time you exercise as the exercises are randomly selected and combined.

My Routine

Create your own exercise plan by choosing "My Routine" and select from the 18 yoga and 15 strength exercises available with the Wii Fit Plus. You can select from the exercises available to customize your exercise plan, from warm up to cool down. You can add an exercise more than once and place it anywhere in your routine. Your exercise plan is saved under your name to return to as often as you wish.

Aerobic Exercises

Choose the red "Aerobics" button from the training menu on you Wii Fit Plus to choose from nine aerobic exercises that help improve the performance of your circulatory system, heart and lungs. Choose from running exercises, step exercise, boxing and hula hoop. Combine these exercises in a daily plan to work the lower body, core muscles and your upper body, covering all your major muscle groups.

Calorie Check

You can access the number of calories you burn each day on your plan by choosing "Calorie Check" from the training menu. The top of the screen tells you how many calories you have burned, and the bottom tells you how many you have left to reach your goal. Consider making exercise adjustments to your plan if your current plan is not reaching your burned calorie goal. Choose Wii exercises with a higher metabolic equivalent of task which represents how intense the exercise is. The higher the MET rating, the more calories you burn during your workout.
