Side Effects of Wellbutrin SR

Wellbutrin Sustained Release is a brand name of bupropion. It may be part of the treatment for mental depression or as a support to help with smoking cessation therapy. It is also used as a preventative for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) sufferers. It is available as a pill, only as a prescription medication.

Typical Serious Side Effects

Wellbutrin SR may cause a variety of undesired side effects along with the effects it is meant to provide. Some of these occur in more patients than in others. Any one of these should be reported to your physician as soon as possible. Some common and serious side effects who use bupropion experience include a rash on the skin, agitation, hives, anxiety, itching, noises in the ears, such as buzzing or ringing, and severe headaches.

Possible Serious Side Effects

The use of Wellbutrin SR also has produced serious side effects that were reported by patients less frequently or rarely, according to the Mayo Clinic. While rare, these effects still should be reported to a medical professional. They include excited talking, confusion, excited feelings, fainting, excited actions, falsehoods that facts cannot rectify, sweating, distrusting extremely, restlessness, visual hallucinations, nervousness, auditory hallucinations, constant motion, sensory hallucinations, irritability, seizures, rapid heartbeat, concentration difficulties, pain in the chest, out-of-control actions, discomfort in the chest, assaulting or attacking people, aggression and impulsiveness.

Temporary Side Effects

Bupropion may cause you to have some side effects that probably won't last after your body has acclimated to the medication. These are non-serious side effects you don't need to tell your doctor about unless they become annoying or continue past the initial intake of the drug. These may include euphoria, pain in the abdomen, pain in the throat, constipation, pain in muscles, lowered appetite, increased frequency in urination, dizziness, drowsiness, abnormal loss of weight, changes in the way food tastes, dry mouth, vision blurring, insomnia, shaking, trembling or excessive sweating.

Overdose

If you exceed the doses recommended by your physician, you may experience side effects such as unconsciousness, vomiting and nausea. You should seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these issues.
