The wu yi weight loss system consists of a diet tea. The manufacturers claim that this Chinese tea will help burn fat and reduce weight significantly within seven days, assuring consumers they can have their money back if unsatisfied. But is wu yi really effective for weight loss?
Wu Yi Tea
According to the official wu yi website, the tea is rich in amino acids and antioxidants. The website also claims that wu yi has many properties that stimulate the metabolism of stored fat and block the negative effects of carbohydrates, though these are not named. Claims that the product has a number of other health benefits including lowering cholesterol levels, aiding digestion, boosting the immune system, alleviating fatigue, lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of cancer, are unsubstantiated.
Directions
The manufacturers of wu yi tea recommend adding one tea bag to a cup of hot water and allowing it to steep for three to five minutes. After this time, the tea bag may be removed and the tea is ready to drink. The consumer is directed to drink two cups of wu yi tea each day for maximum effect.
Backed By Science?
There have been a number of conflicting studies on the effectiveness of tea for weight loss. The general agreement is that types of tea that are high in caffeine content may stimulate the metabolism and lead to weight loss in some cases. According to the USDA, black tea may also lower lipids. This means that it may help to reduce high cholesterol.
Effectiveness in Question
Although the manufacturers mention two studies related to the effects of certain types of tea, no specific citation of the studies is made available. It is also not clear that wu yi is the same type of tea used in any studies. There is insufficient evidence to support any of the manufacturer's claims about wu yi tea. Furthermore, the manufacturer admits that the FDA has not made an evaluation of wu yi. The website states "we do not make any guarantee about wu yi's health benefits. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease."
