Reducing your weight with dieting is the easiest path to quick weight loss. The most important aspect of dieting is proper calorie management. For every 3,500-calorie increase in intake, you will gain a pound of body fat. For every 3,500-calorie decrease in intake, you will lose a pound of body fat. Therefore, reducing portion size and avoiding high calorie foods can help you reduce weight.

Step 1

Reduce the amount of food you eat. Reducing your portion size is the first step in successful weight loss through dietary changes. Instead of eating a full plate of food, eat your meals on a smaller saucer-sized plate. Avoid the temptation to return for more food. Over time, the reduction in portion size will result in a relative caloric decrease and subsequent weight loss.

Step 2

Replace high calorie foods, such as fatty meats, chips, cookies, candies, processed foods and simple carbohydrates with healthier foods. Specifically, consume more fish instead of fatty meats. If you are cooking red meat, chooser lean brands. Replace simple carbohydrates, such as white rice, white pastas, table sugar and white breads with complex carbohydrates. Unlike simple carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, brown pastas and whole grain breads, contain dietary fiber, which allows a slow rise in blood glucose levels and prevents fat gain.

Step 3

Drink a full glass of water with your meal to help you feel full. In addition, your body needs adequate amounts of water to effectively burn calories and help you lose weight. Avoid sugary juices or sodas because these beverages contain large amounts of calories that will cause weight gain.
