According to the Journal of Consumer research, few individuals actually use their treadmills as much as they plan to after making the purchase. However, this does not stop individuals from purchasing treadmills. Another less common option for making your dream of owning a treadmill a reality is a rent-to-buy option. This option is available online and requires the signing of a contract.

Rent to Buy Option

A rent-to-buy option is rare but is often used with larger purchases -- including treadmills and other fitness equipment. Rent-to-own contracts allow you to especially pay rent on your treadmill until you own the product. Depending on the duration of your contract, you can expect to rent your treadmill for anywhere from four to six months. Should you decide you do not want to buy your treadmill, you do have the option of canceling your contract. However, you are subject to a termination charge and will lose the money that you spent renting your treadmill.

Rent A Gym

Rent A Gym is an online program that allows individuals to make monthly payments through the use of a credit card, debit card or by using Paypal. You can make monthly payments of $95 per month plus tax until you are able to pay off your treadmill. Equipment will be delivered to you. You will sign a contract and will also need to provide information on how your treadmill will be used. You will need to inform the company of your weight, how much you will be using the treadmill, where it will be used and how many people may be using it. With this program, you can have the treadmill picked up at any time without any penalties or you can continue making payments until you own the treadmill.

Join a Gym

If you are not sure how much you will actually use a treadmill or cannot afford to make large monthly payments to own or even $100 per month payment for a rental, consider joining a gym. For around $30 per month you have next to unlimited access to treadmills. This can help solidify your decision to buy or rent a treadmill later on when your finances permit.

Buying Interest Free

If you are looking to buy a treadmill, but cannot afford to pay cash and do not want to put your purchase on a credit card with an extremely high interest rate, look for promotions. Visit local stores that sell fitness equipment. Discuss financing options with the sales associate. Provided you can make your monthly payments, you may be able to avoid paying interest if you are able to pay your treadmill off in full within a certain period of time.
