Slim Fast Ready-to-Drink Shakes
Twice a day on the Slim-Fast 3-2-1 Plan, you replace one of your regular meals with a Slim-Fast meal bar, a ready-to-drink shake or a serving of shake mix. Slim-Fast ready-to-drink shakes come in single-serving 12-oz. cans; there are regular, high-protein and reduced-carbohydrate versions. Regular shake flavors include French vanilla, milk chocolate, cappuccino and strawberries and cream. The ready-to-drink high-protein shake is chocolate-flavored, and the lower-carbohydrate shakes come in vanilla cream and creamy chocolate.
Nutritional Overview
The ready-to-drink shakes have about 180 to 190 calories per serving, and up to about 9 g of fat with 2 g of saturated fat. All the varieties have at least 30 percent of the daily value for the essential vitamins and many minerals including calcium, zinc and magnesium. Ready-to-drink shakes have 15 percent of the daily value for iron. Some of the shakes have up to 100 percent of the daily value for vitamin E and vitamin C. The regular shakes have 10 g of protein, higher-protein shakes have 15 g protein and lower-carb varieties have 20 g of protein.
Slim Fast Shake Mixes
Shake mixes come in powdered form, and you make them by mixing one-third cup of powder with 8 oz. of fat-free milk. Regular shake mixes come in chocolate, French vanilla and strawberry, and high-protein mixes come in creamy chocolate or vanilla. There is no low-carbohydrate option for the shake mixes. Each prepared serving has 200 calories, about 4 g fat and 0.5 g of saturated fat. They provide at least 30 percent of the daily value for the essential vitamins and many essential minerals, and they have 30 to 35 percent of the daily value for iron.
Carbohydrates and Sweeteners
Regular and high-protein ready-to-drink shakes and shake mixes have about 24 to 30 g of carbohydrates, 4 to 5 g of dietary fiber and up to about 20 g of sugars from sources such as fructose, corn syrup, sugar and lactose. The lower-carb choices have 4 to 6 g of total carbohydrates, up to 2 g of dietary fiber and 1 g of sugar. They have sugar alcohols and sucralose. Non-nutritive sweeteners in regular and high-protein Slim-Fast shakes and shake mixes include sucralose, acesulfame potassium and aspartame.
