The Best Wii Games to Exercise

If you are looking to get in shape, you may decide to use your Wii console to increase your level of physical activity. The Wii has several fitness titles that can get you off the couch to improve strength and endurance and promote weight loss. When you do settle on a Wii game for exercise, you'll find certain activities on the game more beneficial than others.

"Wii Sports"

"Wii Sports" was the original title launched with the release of the Nintendo Wii console. This game requires you to move the Wii remote to simulate sports including baseball, boxing, tennis, golf and bowling. "Wii Sports" can be enjoyed with multiple players. According to a 2008 University of Wisconsin study, the highest calorie-burning activities on "Wii Sports" are "Tennis" and "Boxing." While simulating tennis, you burn approximately 5.3 calories per minute, and you burn 7.2 calories per minute with boxing.

"Wii Fit"

"Wii Fit" from Nintendo includes a 1.5 in. balance board with your game purchase. The board is utilized for activities on the Wii as well as to track your weight as you progress through the game. Games are separated into categories such as yoga, balance games, strength training and aerobics. Before each exercise, you are taught how to practice proper form. Top calorie burners for the "Wii Fit" include "Super Hula Hoop," "Advanced Step" and "Rhythm Boxing."

"Wii Fit Plus"

"Wii Fit Plus" is an upgraded version of "Wii Fit" and can be purchased without the balance board. Additional activities include "Juggling" and "Skateboarding" along with extra yoga poses and strength training moves. You are also given the option to create a customized workout routine that you can save and repeat each time you play the game.

"EA Sports Active"

"EA Sports Active" for the Wii was developed with the help of famed personal trainer Bob Greene. Resistance bands are included with your purchase and are utilized as you complete circuit training workouts. Tutorial videos are included in the game to demonstrate proper form and provide you with tips on how to complete the exercises.
