The menstrual cycle is the amount of time between menses. The average menstrual cycle is 28 days in length. Though many women may welcome a longer than average menstrual cycle because it means fewer menstrual periods per year, women trying to get pregnant often find this to be disadvantageous because it offers them fewer opportunities to conceive. Vitex, a plant found in Asian and Mediterranean countries, is believed to normalize menstrual cycles, according to "Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies."
Consult your physician prior to using vitex, or any other remedy, to shorten your menstrual cycle.
Step 1
Take 500 mg, which is usually one tablet, of vitex with breakfast with a large glass of water.
Step 2
Swallow a 500 mg vitex tablet each evening with dinner.
Step 3
Plan to take vitex at the same times each day to maintain stable levels of it in your system.
Step 4
Discontinue use of vitex during your menstrual period and restart use of vitex the day after your menstrual period ends.
