Although losing large amounts of weight can take an extended period of time, increasing your activity levels and reducing your calorie intake can help you lose weight in the short term. By making small changes in your lifestyle, you can lose weight in as little as a month. Before attempting a weight loss plan or altering your diet, you should consult a doctor.
Join a Sports Team
Joining a community or school sports team can help you lose weight. Organized sports teams will keep you active with games and practices, and some coaches may have you engage in weight training or cardiovascular exercise outside of team events. The high activity level encourages the burning of calories, which can aid your weight loss. The NutriStrategy website notes that an hour of rowing for crew burns 708 calories, while an hour of soccer burns 590 calories.
Bike To School
If you have trouble fitting exercise into your schedule, biking to school can enable you to get a workout that also serves a purpose. In addition, biking to school may get you to school faster, as you won't have to make frequent stops like the bus. According to MayoClinic.com, you can burn nearly 300 calories in 60 minutes of biking.
Switch Sodas
Nutrition is a large part of weight loss, and altering your diet can help you lose weight in just a month. One way to cut out unnecessary calories is to switch from regular soda to diet soda. According to the Harvard Medical School, soft drinks and other sugar-sweetened beverages may encourage obesity because they contain many calories, but don't make you feel full. If you drink 16 oz. of soda each day, switching to diet soda would save you 6,000 calories in a 30-day period.
Eat Eggs For Breakfast
Breakfast is the first meal of the day, and can set you up for success if you choose the right food. Instead of sugary cereal, try eating an egg, as research suggests this high-protein food may aid in weight loss. A study by J. Ratliff and colleagues from the February 2010 issue of "Nutrition Research" found that eating eggs for breakfast reduced production of ghrelin, a hunger-inducing hormone, and led to reduced calorie intake throughout the day.
