When you perform yoga exercise in the water, you have combined two relaxing, effective and calming workouts into one. Instructors can be certified to teach this aquatic exercise combination, which expands their resume and creates a new career opportunity. Having certified yoga water instructors also opens a new form of exercise for participants at the aquatic center.
Yoga
Some yoga poses include inversions and forward bends and adapting these to water principles may require training. The water yoga certification programs will teach you to adapt land yoga poses into your water workouts. You will learn to incorporate the pool sides, noodles and partners to manipulate into water yoga postures.
Water
The water creates a unique training environment. Practicing yoga in water will enhance balance because the current is pushing and pulling your body in different directions. A yoga water certification will help you use the water principles to enhance muscle toning and relaxation. The water also assists in increasing joint mobility, and a certification will teach you proper body alignment for safe and effective classes.
Time
The two main water yoga certifications, Aqua Float and Yoqua, are daylong programs. You can earn your certification or get continuing education credits in one weekend day. Aqua Float has a home-study course available that includes a manual with 108 color aqua yoga exercise photographs and costs $189, as of February 2011.
Practical Application
Once you receive your aquatic yoga certification, you can use your knowledge to develop group exercise classes. You will need access to a shallow pool for some of the movements, and room for suspension for other yoga poses. You can also use your certification to promote individual training, or to expand your personal workout routine.
