NuLev is Alaven Pharmaceutical's brand of the generic hyoscyamine sulfate, an antispasmodic medication used to treat irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcers, colic, and other gastric intestinal disorders. It is also used to lessen pain from gallstones or kidney stones. It is prescribed as a tablet, which dissolves on the patient's tongue. It works by lessening stomach fluid production, including acid. Its drying effect can help with saliva over-production, sweating and runny nose as well. It shares some of the side effects of other antacids and drying agents.
Drying Agent Properties
Drying agent properties of NuLev may make it difficult for a patient to sweat and cool properly. According to Drugs.com, those using NuLev should be careful not to become overheated. It can also cause dry mouth in the patient.
Allergic Reactions
Typical allergic reactions to NuLev include stomach gas, blurry vision, dilated pupils, dizziness and weakness. Other possible allergic reactions are confusion, constipation and drowsiness. Nausea, headaches, hives, itching, impotence, difficulty urinating, insomnia and heart palpitations are also possible. Speech problems have been reported as well as general weakness.
Interactions
Interactions with other drugs while taking NuLev are cautioned by Drugs.com. Possible side effects through drug interactions include multiplying or lessening the effect when using amantadine, antacids and antidepressants. Antihistimines, tranquilizers and other antispasmodics should also be avoided.
Other Side Effects
Other side effects of taking NuLev warned of by the National Institutes of Health include blurred vision, flushing, increased light sensitivity, eye pain and irregular heartbeat.
