If you want to increase your metabolism, start by eating regular meals. Skipping meals or trying starvation diets will only cause your metabolism to slow down in an attempt to conserve calories. Exercise also increases metabolism, making it a good addition to a weight loss program for more than the obvious reasons.
Cayenne
Cayenne pepper, best known as red pepper, can increase metabolism, according to a 2006 study published in "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Consuming a meal that contains chili causes the body's temperature to rise for several hours after a meal. This causes the body to burn more calories. Cayenne also helps regulate the breakdown of carbohydrates and controls blood sugar.
Dairy Products
Regular consumption of dairy products such as low-fat cheese, milk and yogurt can increase your metabolism. A 2007 study published in "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" showed that the calcium in dairy products can increase fat metabolism and help with weight loss. Taking calcium supplements does not produce the same effects as consuming dairy products.
Ginger
No formal studies exist on the effects of ginger on metabolism, but plenty of natural health experts swear by it. Dr.Mehmet Oz, professor of surgery at Columbia University and a frequent guest of the Oprah show says eating ginger can increase your metabolic rate by up to 20 percent.
Lean Proteins
Protein slightly raises your metabolism right after eating it. Protein is also essential to build muscle. Muscle revs up metabolism, so building up more muscle will also contribute to a faster metabolic rate. If you're trying to lose weight, make sure you choose lean proteins such as turkey, fish and chicken. Eggs, soy and low-fat dairy also make good choices.
