1. Make Healthy Choices
Nutrition plays a big part in your success in transforming a bulging belly into ripped six pack abs. After all, how can you have a toned tummy if a layer of fat is insulating it? Like any diet plan, the key to losing weight safely is by eating the right foods in moderation. Fad diets may help you lose weight quickly, but they are not always safe. Likewise, sticking to a fad diet plan is difficult if it doesn't allow you to eat all of your favorite foods. Developing a six pack does not happen quickly, so you should stick with a diet that focuses on making healthy choices. Aim to reduce the amount of saturated fat and refined sugar from your diet, and increase the amount of fruits, vegetables and lean protein you consume.
2. Tone Your Tummy
If you want six pack abs, you'll have to physically work your abdominal muscles through exercise at least three to five times per week. One of the easiest exercises you can do is the abdominal crunch. To perform this exercise, lie flat on the floor. For added comfort, place a cushioned exercise or yoga mat on the floor first. Raise your knees and bend your legs slightly. Keep your lower back on the floor. Support your head and neck with your hands, and raise your upper body slowly using your abdominal muscles. Avoid pulling with your legs or rocking your body off the floor. You can also use an exercise ball to strengthen your abdominal muscles. This exercise is considerably more challenging and you should do it only if you are experienced or have a partner to "spot" you. The concept of using an exercise ball is similar to that of performing an abdominal crunch on the floor. When doing any type of abdominal exercise, your focus should be on the quality of the exercise versus the quantity of repetitions. Overall, abdominal crunches should be only a small part of your total exercise routine. You need to work your entire body using exercises that will help you burn fat and build muscle.
3. Nix the Quick fix
Don't rely on gadgets that promise fantastic results in a short amount of time. In truth, developing a great six pack requires a lot of time and dedication. Many people give up within a short time of beginning their quest for a flat stomach and tight abs because they fail to see results quickly enough. Machines that claim to trim tummy fat are misleading, because you cannot reduce the fat in any one area of your body. Quick fixes don't work and you will only feel frustrated and disappointed when you don't get the six pack abs you want.
4. Accept Your Saggy Belly
Sometimes you have to accept that attaining a six pack is just not possible. Unless you are able to reduce the layer of fat on your abdominal area, it won't matter how many abdominal crunches you do or how strong your muscles become. You will only see a pooch. This is especially true for older people, especially women whose changing hormones are, in part, responsible for that saggy belly. Likewise, genetics is also a deciding factor in determining who can develop a six pack.
5. Stand Tall
If you want to give the illusion of a flat stomach and hint of six pack abs, try improving your posture. Stand with your shoulders and head back instead of hunched over. Point your tailbone to the floor instead of tilting it back. Imagine you have a string that runs through your body and "check" your posture by mentally pulling the string up through your head.
