Exercising on a treadmill is an effective way to lose excess weight, tone your legs and condition your heart and lungs. Sears markets a brand of treadmill called the Lifestyler that is sold at Sears stores, in the catalogs and on the company's website. Sears Lifestyler treadmills have the same features as most other treadmills and are straightforward to use.
Assembly
To get your Sears treadmill together, unpack it from the box and then lift the upright post so it is vertical. Use a lock-knob washer to insert the lock knob into the post. Turn the knob clockwise until it is just about tight. Insert the top end of the side rail into the left side of the console and then place the short side rail bolt under the console through the metal plate. Tighten the bolt in the side rail. Align the bottom end of the side rail with the proper holes in the frame and insert the long side rail bolt. Reach beneath the frame and screw the side-rail nut on the end of the bolt and tighten the lock knob.
Setup
Before you use your treadmill for the first time, it is a good idea to lubricate the walking belt. Use a silicone, non-oily, non-petrol based spray to lube the belt. Unplug the treadmill and lift up the belt in the middle, one side at a time. Apply a few seconds' worth of spray on the surface beneath the belt. Lubricate the treadmill after every 10 hours of use or if it seems it is needed. Plug your treadmill into a properly grounded outlet to avoid getting a shock, and you are good to go.
Getting Started
To start, step onto the foot rails of the treadmill and attach the clip from the safety key to your clothing. Slide the key into the slot on the console and move it to the right. The light will come on, signifying the power is on. Rotate the speed-control knob on the console counterclockwise until it is at the "Reset" position. Then move the knob clockwise until the walking belt begins to move. The knob has to be set to "Reset" each time the power is turned on.
Working Out
Once you have the belt moving, step carefully onto the belt and turn the speed-control knob to the speed you want. Increase the speed to a brisk walking pace or running pace if you prefer. Step onto the back of the foot rails and pull the lever on the console to raise the incline of the walking deck. Release the lever when you have reached the incline you want to use. Stand near the front of the foot rails and pull the lever again to lower the incline.
