The Nescafe Dolce Gusto system is a coffee maker that allows you to prepare a variety of flavors of coffee that come in specially designed capsules. Black coffee is not high in fat, sugar or calories, but when you add the flavored syrups, cream and sugar available in some of the Dolce Gusto flavors, you could consume more than you should if you drink more than one cup of specialty coffee daily.

Fat

A diet too high in fat, especially saturated fat, can increase your risk of heart disease and weight gain. A 2,000-calorie diet should be limited to 78 g of fat per day. While one serving of Dolce Gusto coffee doesn't contain a high amount of fat, several cups will quickly increase your intake for the day. The Latte Macchiato flavor contains 4.5 g of fat, 2 g of which are saturated. The Chococino flavor has 6 g of fat, 3.5 g of which are saturated. If you're looking for varieties that will not contribute to your fat or sugar intake, consider the House Blend/Caffe Americano and Caffe Lungo flavors, neither of which has any significant amount of fat, sugar or calories when consumed black.

Calories

If you regularly consume more calories than you can burn, you will gain weight. Adding cream and sugar to your coffee increases your calorie intake. The Dolce Gusto coffee flavors are no exception. The Vanilla Latte Macchiato contains 90 calories and the Cappucino contains 80 calories. If you balance one cup with a breakfast that is lower in calories, you can enjoy Dolce Gusto coffee without contributing to unhealthy weight gain, but drinking several cups could be derailing healthy weight maintenance.

Sugar

A diet too high in sugar could lead to insulin resistance and diabetes. High amounts of sugar in your diet contributes additional calories to your diet, possibly resulting in weight gain. A cup of the Mocha flavor contains 12 g of sugar and the Cappucino Ice contains 17 g. With daily recommendations being 24 to 40 g per day, these two flavors contribute to that range significantly.

Recommendations

Moderate coffee drinking does have health benefits. Coffee could reduce your risk of Type 2 diabetes, colon cancer and Parkinson's disease. It also plays a role in increased cognition and endurance during physical activity. However, these benefits come from the coffee beans, so choosing black coffee is a better choice than the sweetened and flavored versions. However, if you must have Dolce Gusto flavored coffee, stick to one cup, which will help you control your fat, calorie and sugar intake while allowing your to enjoy your favorite flavor. Limiting coffee also controls your caffeine intake. Caffeine could result in irregular heartbeat and increased blood pressure when consumed in large amounts.
