Weight gain is a common health problem among Americans, and it can lead to numerous chronic health problems if left untreated. The National Center for Biotechnology Information notes that the consumption of more calories than are burned may lead to becoming overweight. If this process is not checked, you may become obese. Amla, an Ayurvedic herb, boosts lean body mass and reduces fat, while other herbs, including chlorella, gudmar, schizandra and suma, assist glucose utilization, hormone production and digestion. Other beneficial herbs may include aloe vera juice, astragalus, fennel, trifala, turmeric and green tea.

A Popular Remedy

Green tea is one of the most popular herbal remedies for treating obesity or excess body weight. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine states that green tea is used to assist weight loss, reduce blood cholesterol levels and improve alertness. Other uses of this herb include combating tooth decay, stimulating the immune system and regulating blood glucose levels. Balch notes that green tea may help you lose weight, but green tea must not be decaffeinated for the purpose of weight loss.

Considerations

Being overweight or obese can lead to numerous health problems, including depression, degenerative joint disease, certain cancers and obstructive sleep apnea. Maintaining your ideal body weight is important for your long-term health. Many weight loss treatments may produce short-term results but may be harmful for your long-term well-being.
