My Nordic Track Treadmill Is Slipping

NordicTrack is a brand of fitness equipment manufactured by Icon Health and Fitness, which also produces other popular brands, such as ProForm and Weslo. If the walking belt on your NordicTrack treadmill starts to slip, you might be able to troubleshoot the problem yourself. You will need an Allen wrench to adjust the belt.

Causes

The most common cause of the belt slipping is that it is loose. This occurs naturally over time with use and age.
The belt can also slip if it has recently been lubricated. Not all NordicTrack treadmills require lubrication. You can damage a maintenance-free belt if you lubricate it. Do not apply any spray or lubricant to the walking deck without first checking your owner's manual.

Troubleshoot

If the belt slips, you should first check the tension of the belt. Unplug your NordicTrack treadmill and remove the safety key. Lift the middle of the walking belt on one side of the machine. The belt should lift 2 to 3 inches, or 3 to 4 inches off the walking platform, depending on the model. Check your owner's manual for the proper tension measurement. If it lifts more than this, it is too loose and you will have to tighten the belt.

NordicTrack Treadmill Types

NordicTrack treadmills have one of two belt adjustment styles: a two-bolt adjustment or a one-bolt adjustment. Look at the bolts in the end caps at the back of the machine. If the right bolt is a hex head, you have a one-adjustment bolt belt; if it has an Allen wrench recess, it is a two-bolt adjustment machine. Before adjusting the belt, always unplug the machine and remove the safety key.

Tighten the Belt

If you have a two-bolt adjustment NordicTrack, turn both rear roller bolts at the back of the machine 1/4 turn, clockwise. If you have a one-bolt adjustment NordicTrack, hold the left bolt in place with pliers and turn the right bolt 1/4 turn clockwise. Check the tension of the belt by lifting it. If it is still loose, adjust the bolts again, turning them only 1/4 turn each time.
