Feeling consistently lethargic, having digestive problems, aches and pains, gaining weight, or experiencing skin problems can alert to an overload of toxins in your body. Detoxification involves gentle internal cleaning and restoring your body into a more balanced state, where it functions in optimum health and reduce the occurrence of dis-ease. There are different applicable approaches to start the process of removing and eliminating toxins while supplying your body with the appropriate nutrients.

Step 1

Eliminate refined sugars and saturated fats, white flour, alcohol, coffee and cigarettes from your diet and lifestyle. Known to impede your healing process, gradually transition from these foods, as immediate elimination can cause upset within your body.

Step 2

Drink the recommended daily water consumption of half of your body's weight in ounces, up to 100 ozs. of water. Considered an ancient practice, drinking only water one day each week has been used as a detox option. Water hydrates and energizes your organs, which increases the functioning of a healthier body.

Step 3

Eat plenty of fiber. An excellent detoxifying food, fiber helps to increase elimination of waste through the bowels. Fiber foods include fresh fruits and vegetables, such as apples, dark green leafy vegetables, beets, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, and spirulina.

Step 4

Take herbs such as dandelion root and burdock to assist in cleansing your liver, a main organ of detoxification. Herbs can be taken in tea form, tincture, or capsule. As a tincture, you will need to add a specified amount of drops to water or take by itself. However, you should always consult a doctor before taking herbs for any medicinal purpose.

Tips and Warnings

  • Add enzymes into your diet as a means to assist your body to properly digest all foods. Enzyme therapy is a muscle palpation technique administered on the body to test the enzyme status throughout the body. The right enzymes then can be placed back into the body. Add Vitamin C, for example, squeezed lemon juice or essential oil of lemon, to water to help drive away more toxins. Consider juicing the fiber-rich fruits and vegetables several times per week for easier absorption of nutrients.
  • According to the Mayo Clinic, "Detox diets can lead to dehydration, fatigue, dizziness, nausea." Consult with a qualified health-care professional before using any health treatment and tell your practitioner if you have a serious medical condition or are taking any medications. Consult with a herbal practitioner.
