Whether you want to be thinner for a special event or just to get in better shape for health reasons, you can lose weight quickly and successfully. Keep in mind, however, that losing weight gradually -- over a longer period -- is a better, safer route. Although numerous fad and crash diets exist, these are typically not wise or safe ways to lose weight quickly. The speed at which you lose weight depends on variables, such as how much weight you need to lose and how diligently you adhere to your weight-loss program.
Nutrition
To lose weight quickly, decrease the number of daily calories you consume. Eat only whole foods and no processed foods. A low-carbohydrate diet offers an excellent way to lose weight. It consists mostly of meat, eggs, healthy fats and low-glycemic vegetables. Eliminate any foods to which you are allergic or sensitive. Some common food allergens include gluten, dairy, soy, corn and peanuts. Also minimize or eliminate simple carbohydrates, such as foods containing grains, as well as sugars. Eat as much organic food that is free of chemicals, hormones, pesticides, artificial colors and artificial sweeteners as you can, because these additives can slow weight loss.
Exercise
To lose weight quickly and successfully, you need to move. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle that involves sitting at a desk or on the sofa much of the time. Exercise every day for at least 30 minutes. The more vigorous and lengthy your exercise sessions, the quicker you will lose weight. Brisk walking and bicycling provide enjoyable and effective exercise choices. If you have not been working out recently, check with your health practitioner before beginning your routine. In addition to exercise, incorporate movement throughout your day -- walking up stairs, performing hourly stretches next to your desk and jumping for a few minutes several times per day on a mini trampoline.
Medical Conditions
Address any hormone or other medical conditions you might have to help speed your weight loss. The thyroid gland in the neck produces hormones that control the body's metabolism, and hypothyroidism, which exists when the thyroid is underactive, can cause you to gain weight and have trouble losing it. Also address adrenal fatigue, because adrenal gland dysfunction can contribute to weight gain.
Water
Drinking plenty of water every day can contribute to quicker weight loss. Each person's needs are slightly different. You might need more water if you live in a dry climate or at a high altitude. Avoid unfiltered tap water, which gives you not just hydration but also a laundry list of chemicals and other toxins. Instead, drink spring water or water that you filter at home.
