If you suffer from exhaustion or fatigue, you may have trouble staying awake or have a tendency to forget things. Several factors play a role in the onset of exhaustion, including stress, depression, physical exertion, anemia, pregnancy and chronic fatigue syndrome. Exhaustion affects every area of your life, often making it difficult to function during normal daily activities. If you experience severe exhaustion, improvements to your lifestyle can help you cope with the problem. Talk to your health care provider if you experience health problems as a result of exhaustion.
Step 1
Take a multi-vitamin every day. Vitamin and nutrient deficiencies can make exhaustion worse.
Step 2
Include relaxation or meditation as part of your daily routine. Write it down in your daily planner to help you make an effort to take quiet time each day to relax. Avoid over scheduling yourself or spending free time in front of the T.V. or computer. Take a walk, sit quietly in a chair, take a nap or read.
Step 3
Make sleep a priority. Aim to get a minimum of seven hours of sleep each night. When you get enough sleep, your body is able to function properly. Lack of sleep not only leads to exhaustion, but also leads to unhealthy food choices, makes exercise difficult and increases irritability and mood swings. If you have a T.V. in your room, move it out and avoid taking your computer or work to bed with you. Make sure those seven hours are undisturbed to allow your body plenty of time to recover from daily activities.
Step 4
Avoid stimulants. While coffee, tea and alcohol provide an effective burst of energy, they also cause a sudden drop. This often leaves you feeling more exhausted at the end of the day. Caffeine found in energy drinks, soda and coffee can overexcite the adrenal glands and cause problems with sleep patterns.
Step 5
Practice yoga or other gentle exercise. Yoga is an effective way for those who suffer from stress to relax and stretch while breathing deeply and practicing relaxation techniques. Exercise may also help you sleep better at night.
Step 6
Eat a balanced diet made up of fresh produce, whole grains and lean protein to help maintain healthy energy levels throughout the day. Avoid processed fats or junk foods that lack essential nutrients. They not only lead to bad cholesterol, but also make it difficult for your body to absorb healthy fatty acids, which improve brain function. Cut out empty sugars found in soda and replace with water or juice. Water helps you avoid dehydration, which is a common cause of fatigue and exhaustion. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day.
