Many people drink green tea not just for its taste but also for some of the beneficial chemicals which it contains, including tannins. When you are finished drinking green tea, hold onto your used green tea bag. Even once your tea has been brewed, you can use the bag or the tea leaves for a variety of purposes, such as air fresheners, fertilizer or as a way to rejuvenate the skin on your face.
Step 1
Press used tea bags against your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool the used tea bag. You can do this by letting it sit for 30 minutes or by putting it in the refrigerator for a few minutes.Green tea has antioxidants that will reduce puffiness or discoloration, GreenPlanet.com explains. It also has anti-inflammatory compounds that help reduce under-eye fluid buildup.
Step 2
Prepare chagara. Chagara is a Japanese term for used tea leaves and you can make it even if you do not use the tea bags on your skin, as in Step 1. Open the tea bag and spread the leaves out on a paper towel until they have completely dried.
Step 3
Spread chagara around to areas of your house with unpleasant odors. Add a few of these dried tea leaves to a pillowcase to make a scented pillow, TeaGenius.com explains. Sprinkle chagara on your carpets, wait a few minutes to allow the used tea leaves to absorb odors, and vacuum up the dried tea leaves. Set a container of chagara in your freezer and refrigerator to absorb odors.
Step 4
Work chagara into the soil around your plants. Used tea leaves make an excellent fertilizer for plants, TeaGenius.com notes. And adding used tea bags to the soil increases nitrogen levels, according to PlanetGreen.com.
