You may have seen infomercials for the Cross Crunch, the exercise machine that promises you can get the effectiveness of 100 standard crunches in only 24 repetitions. The Cross Crunch uses a philosophy of dual action as you push down and across to help you hone tighter abdominal muscles. Although no scientific research has been conducted on the effectiveness of the Cross Crunch, some of the user reviews for this product are favorable. Try it for yourself with proper technique to assess how effective it is for you.
Step 1
Choose the amount of resistance you want for your Cross Crunch. The kit comes with two different resistance levels: medium and heavy, which are 50 lbs. and 75 lbs., respectively. If this is your first time, choose medium, and if you find it too easy, then switch to heavy. Otherwise, save the heavy resistance for when you start to improve.
Step 2
Unsnap the back cover from the Cross Crunch and insert the resistance bands, hooking them onto the loops and snapping the back cover back on. While some users complain that inserting the resistance bands is difficult, you should be able to locate the loops and snap them in fairly easily.
Step 3
Sit on a sturdy surface, such as a hard chair. Although the infomercial depicts users working out on a couch, it will be easier if you use a hard surface to brace against, and you'll get a better abdominal workout. Sit in a chair, and place one of the two feet from the Cross Crunch against your outer thigh, pressed against the surface of the chair seat.
Step 4
Hold the top handles of the Cross Crunch to the opposite side of your body, and press them down while moving across your body. You should feel the resistance as you press down, then slowly let back up. Be careful not to lift the Cross Crunch off of the chair, but keep its feet firmly on the chair. Take your time with each push. Aim for three to five seconds for pushing down, and the same for releasing.
Step 5
Complete 12 repetitions on each side to complete an entire workout. Some users report that completing several sets per day gave them the best results, although the manufacturers claim that one workout per day is enough to get chiseled abs.
